Principal – Commercial Analysis and Improvement

Location: Perth based (Occasional site travel required)

Roster: 5 and 2 (Monday to Friday) with flexible working arrangements available.

Role overview:

An exciting opportunity exists to join our Commercial team as Principal Commercial.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager Operations, you will be responsible for undertaking strategic financial analysis to drive performance and lead improvement projects that enhance the capability of the commercial function.

In this unique role you will not have any month-end reporting obligations, instead, you will work on a project-by-project basis to deliver a step change in the overall efficiency and impact of the Commercial function. While no two days will ever look the same, some of the types of improvement projects you can expect to be involved in include leading cross-functional stakeholders to enhance our budgeting/forecasting processes, the impact of our performance reporting and the way we manage our capital portfolio.

Note: Fortescue’s Commercial function has similar overall accountabilities to Management Accounting or Finance Business Partnering – including budgeting/forecasting of operating and capital expenditure, performance reporting and commercial strategy.

Key responsibilities:

  • Drive improvement within the Commercial function by driving projects that improve our ability to manage opex and capex, improve the accuracy and efficiency of our budget/forecasting processes and maximise the impact of our performance reporting
  • Drive operational performance by using your analytical capability to provide high quality analysis and strategic insights for senior leaders
  • Work closely with a diverse group of operational and financial stakeholders, to understand the value drivers and report on key performance metrics
  • Continually look for business improvements, proactively identify opportunities and risks
  • Develop and communicate best practice commercial tools and processes for use across all Commercial teams
  • Use Anaplan, Power BI and other reporting tools

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or higher in finance, commerce, economics or science - CPA, CA, CFA or equivalent desirable
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a Big 4 accounting firm, consulting or corporate doing management reporting, strategy or other related finance role
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with financial performance reporting tools or systems
